This website investigates the relationship between the West and Japan at the end of the nineteenth century and middle of the twentieth century through the influence of clothing from both countries. Paintings and portraits from that era are analyzed. The usage of Japanese fashion is explored in how western artists utilized it comparing it to how Japanese artists did. Then, western clothing in Japanese fashion history is examined. Finally, it's seen how the two fashion cultures interacted with one another to create a new type of fashion that was never seen before.
